Historically the words, tabula rasa or blank slate, is a bottom-up approach to analysis. Some say that it seeks, a priori, the most-probable cause of a particular starting point. Another approach is top down. It is a reductionism from those properties observed to more foundational first principles that are to become the basis of all things for all time everywhere. A third approach, generally known as the anthropic principle, brings the human factors, especially the brain-mind tension, into the picture.
We say that all three are equally important, yet we start with the bottom-up approach to get as many concepts as possible on the table for analysis. That work has resulted in three lists: 1) our 35 presuppositions, the list of twelve first principles, and the list of eight preconditions.
