On Religion & Science

To my dear friends who are sure
that science hates religion and
that religion hates science:

No, religion and science are hardly at war. Perhaps arrogant thinkers among both parties are at war, but the disciplines themselves hold each other in the highest regard and are ever grateful for the balance. If only the expositors would open their eyes and see a larger picture.

The finite needs the infinite and the infinite loves the finite.

A possible larger picture. The entire universe is simply and logically encapsulated within just 202 base-2 exponential notations from the Planck base units to the Age of the Universe, the Now, this day, this moment of time, space, mass and charge.

Consider Notation 202. Only about three billion years of it has actualized. The 201nd notation is 173,272,944,073,600,000 seconds (or 5.4908 billion years). All of time up to the beginning of the 201nd notation aggregates (gets added together), so there is another 5.4908 billion years. At the beginning of the 202nd notation, a total of 10.9 billion years, has actualized and is active.  Of course, all of human history (as long as 500,000 years) has been within 202nd notation.  The first second of creation, in this chart, is between notations 143 and 144. Today, we know that there is enough potential diversity within the first 67 notations to give us Special Relativity, General Relativity, and Quantum Mechanics.

The Planck units did not receive much attention for about 100 years; it took Frank Wilczek of MIT, writing in Physics Today, to shake that tree alive with his three articles about Scaling Mt. Planck (2001). If we follow the work of Turok, Rovelli, and Muller, big bang cosmology has seen its best days. Now it is time to search of new beginnings the epochs as defined by big bang cosmology. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Of course, especially on this day, let us hope that your “openness valves”  are all open! Thank you.

Most sincerely,
Bruce

PS. A bit of this work began in 1975 at Harvard where I was at student of Arthur McGill and we focused on hypostatic constructs within the 1943 book, Finite and Infinite by an Oxford don, Austin Farrer. Extensive work with Rhodes scholar, John Findlay, also helped focus on hypostatic constructs. Prior to this work, my primary focus was on perfected states within the physics of space-time.  The epiphany did not begin to happen until 2011, yet there has been a fair amount of disbelief that something so simple could have been overlooked for so long. The wonderful mythopoetics of the Genesis 1 story shall be re-engaged! -B
