The American Mathematical Society is one of the oldest mathematical societies in the world; it has been in continuous operation since 1888. It is one of our world’s learned societies and recognizes the best in class each year. It is a key society in the USA. Membership eligibility is here.
The society first came to our attention as the publisher of the 2012 article by Lagarias and Zong. We wrote to mathematicians and key leaders, Byrna Kra (2024-2026 ) and Ruth Michele Charney (2021-2023), to see if they had any ideas to explain our data.
There are primary references to the society throughout this website, particularly here:

Mathematicians can join Mathematical Association of America (MAA).
Ruth Michele Charney served as president of the American Mathematical Society for the 2021–2023 term. Bryna Kra, a mathematician holding the Sarah Rebecca Roland Professor at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, follows; her term of office is 2024-2026.
Much more to come…
