That petition is in the process of being developed to go to a majority of the learned societies of the world. If you have any suggestions — edits, additions or deletions — that would be very helpful. Of course, France’s Academy of Science is a leader, among the most-highly respected. Notwithstanding, I don’t think that petition is too bold or out-of-line. We’ve got to have courage and try to make progress in these challenging times.
Results coming in from the James Webb Space Telescope are making life very difficult, especially among those who have been made big bang cosmology the focus of their life’s work. Some time in the 1980s, the big bang was no longer considered a theory, but the best possible cosmology upon which to build. That self-assurance was compelling. So, now as some of the footings collapse, we’ve got to be supportive and nurturing. It’s never easy to admit you were wrong when you’ve been so sure you were right. The best response, both cathartic and healing, may well be to be a high-level challenge to figure it out yet once again.
